NCL extends scholarship support for TIME NZ
9 December 2024 – As part of NCL’s longstanding Partners First philosophy Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has extended its support of Travel Industry Mentor Experience NZ (TIME) by offering two mentee scholarships for a third consecutive year in 2025.
NCL’s Director Field Sales for Australia and NZ, Angela Middleton says the company philosophy is to invest in the trade at every possible level of engagement and partnership which makes TIME a natural fit.
“The development of people in our industry is so important and vital to our long-term success,” Middleton says. “We are delighted to be able to offer this invaluable opportunity to two worthy mentees to benefit from the TIME program”.
TIME is a not-for-profit organisation, established in 2019 in New Zealand and 2009 in Australia, to help aspiring leaders of the travel, tourism, cruise, hospitality and aviation sectors accelerate their careers through mentoring.
NCL sees TIME as an important entity in the travel sector as it gives individuals access to the skills and insights of other experienced industry leaders, Middleton says.
“It doesn’t matter whether you’re a manager or a consultant you can gain new insight into how to approach your role, your career and your inhibitions. You can get so much out of it at any stage of your career.
“As well as offering the scholarships, we’ve put our own NCL people through the programme, and the growth we’ve seen in their confidence, strategic thinking and the ability to back themselves has been huge.”
The two NCL TIME scholarships will be available for Intakes 16 and 17 in 2025 and cover six months of mentoring each.
TIME NZ spokesperson Marg Spiro says the scholarships from industry partners such as NCL are vital to the success of the NZ mentoring programme, now five years old, and its mentees.
“There are those who benefit hugely from the development and growth opportunities that come with TIME mentoring who may miss out, without the support of scholarships from our partners like NCL. We are hugely grateful for their support, and are excited they believe in the importance of the programme to expand their scholarship support into 2025.”

Mentoring the mentors: New TIME workshop
July, 2024 – Travel Industry Mentor Experience (TIME) NZ is hosting a workshop to encourage more of our senior industry to share their professional & personal skills and experience in a structured and professional way with others.
Mentor The Mentor will be a one hour online workshop on Thursday 25 July, hosted by three current TIME mentors in which they will answer any questions those considering becoming a mentor might have.
TIME NZ programme manager Margaret Spiro says many people hesitate in becoming a mentor because they have concerns about having the right experience or enough time, or are just not sure about what it entails.
“This workshop is the opportunity to have any questions or concerns about mentoring and what it involves, addressed by those who have first-hand experience of being a mentor,” she says.
“People often think we look for a certain amount or type of experience, but actually what we really love to have in our mentors is a variety of skills, experience and knowledge. We work with mentees from all areas of the tourism industry, from all kinds of backgrounds. Having a variety of experience in our mentors, helps us match them with the mentee they will be most valuable to.”
